Melodic Modeling: A Comparison of Scale Degree and Interval
نویسنده
چکیده
Statistical models of Western melody were created as inspired by traditional music-theoretical conceptions. One model was based on pitch interval measurements; a second model was based on scale-degree successions. Both models distinguished between major and minor scale contexts. Both models were used to calculate the aggregate probability for over 8,000 test melodies. Paired results for both models showed that the scale-degree succession model produced lower aggregate probabilities than the interval model for vast majority of test melodies. A de novo Markov model was also created using a scale-degree representation. This Markov model was shown to perform better than either of the two expert-inspired mod-

Ranking triangular interval-valued fuzzy numbers based on the relative preference relation
In this paper, we first use a fuzzy preference relation with a membership function representing preference degree forcomparing two interval-valued fuzzy numbers and then utilize a relative preference relation improved from the fuzzypreference relation to rank a set of interval-valued fuzzy numbers. Since the fuzzy preference relation is a total orderingrelation that satisfies reciprocal and tra...
متن کاملInterval Type-II Fuzzy H∞ Frequency Control for an Island Microgrid
Frequency control is one of the key parts for the arrangement of the performance of a microgrid (MG) system. Theoretically, model-based controllers may be the ideal control mechanisms; however, they are highly sensitive to model uncertainties and have difficulty with preserving robustness. The presence of serious disturbances, the increasing number of MG, varying voltage supplies of MGs, and bo...
متن کاملLearning Melodic Expectancy: Musical Predictability in an SRN
Descriptive models of music cognition propose various principles as underlying melodic expectancy, however there is very little discussion regarding the processes involved in the acquisition of melodic expectation. To explore the potential role of learning processes, a simple recurrent network (SRN) was trained on a set of musical sequences to examine the degree to which the principles describe...
متن کاملFamiliar Tonal Context Improves Accuracy of Pitch Interval Perception
A fundamental feature of everyday music perception is sensitivity to familiar tonal structures such as musical keys. Many studies have suggested that a tonal context can enhance the perception and representation of pitch. Most of these studies have measured response time, which may reflect expectancy as opposed to perceptual accuracy. We instead used a performance-based measure, comparing parti...
متن کاملMULTI-ATTRIBUTE DECISION MAKING METHOD BASED ON BONFERRONI MEAN OPERATOR and possibility degree OF INTERVAL TYPE-2 TRAPEZOIDAL FUZZY SETS
This paper proposes a new approach based on Bonferroni mean operator and possibility degree to solve fuzzy multi-attribute decision making (FMADM) problems in which the attribute value takes the form of interval type-2 fuzzy numbers. We introduce the concepts of interval possibility mean value and present a new method for calculating the possibility degree of two interval trapezoidal type-2 fuz...
